About the vaccines:
- The HPV vaccine protects against the human papilloma virus, a common virus that spreads through skin-to-skin sexual contact including vaginal, anal, and oral sex. HPV can cause several types of cancer, including cervical, throat, and anal cancer, as well as genital warts. The vaccine is most effective when given before exposure to the virus, which is usually through sexual contact. Vaccination is recommended for all genders, while males may not always show signs of HPV they can transmit it. Getting vaccinated helps protect your long-term health and reduces the spread of HPV in the community.
- The Meningococcal ACWY vaccine protects against meningococcal disease that can cause meningitis (inflammation of the brain lining) and Septicaemia (blood infection) which can lead to permanent disability or death. The disease is caused by the bacteria Neisseria meningitidis and is spread through close prolonged or direct contact with the saliva or respiratory secretions of an infected person – so through coughing, sneezing, kissing or close personal contact, sharing items such as lip balm, cigarettes, vapes or drink bottles. You can carry the bacteria without being sick and still spread it to others. Vaccination is the most effective way to protect yourself and prevent spreading the disease.
Stay healthy and protected.
