• HPV vaccine protects against the human papilloma virus, a common virus that spreads through skin-to-skin sexual contact including vaginal, anal, and oral sex. HPV can cause several types of cancer.
• Meningococcal ACWY vaccine protects against meningococcal disease that can cause meningitis (inflammation of the brain lining) and Septicaemia (blood infection) which can lead to permanent disability or death. It is spread through close prolonged or direct contact with the saliva or respiratory secretions of an infected person. You can carry the bacteria without being sick and still spread it to others.
• Mpox vaccine is recommended for members of the gay, bisexual and MSM community. Mpox is caused by the monkeypox virus and can spread through skin-to-skin contact, contaminated surfaces, and airborne particles.
• MMR (Measles, Mumps & Rubella) vaccine is recommended (and free) for those aged between 20-59 years old who don’t have a record of 2 doses. Measles cases are rising in Australia, which makes booster vaccinations more important. Measles is highly infectious and can cause fever, cough, sore eyes, rash, and death. You are at higher risk if you haven’t had 2 doses. No Medicare card required.
